GSB sabha Mulund celebrated its Golden Jubilee Datta Jayanti function on the 22nd and 23rd of December. It was marked with a Sita Kalyan function and a grand performance by Shri Puttur Narasimha Nayak and Shri Kiran Kamath.
It's a great pleasure to present two video clips of what GSB devotional musiclovers yearn to hear - The soul enriching voice of Shri Puttur Narasimha Nayak rendering the Dasara Padagalu and Konkani Bhajans.
Radio Idli and all the listeners, i am sure, will be ever grateful to him for granting us his kind permission to share the magic of his performance over the Internet. I hope our bandhavas spread all over the world will love this experience, the remembrance of which gives me goosebumps even today!
I would like to convey my heartfilled thanks to GSB sabha Mulund who supported me whole heartedly at the event, to record it and share it with all.
I now hold back my excitement filled words to share the real joy of hearing Nayak-maam:
1) Pavamaana Jagada Praana
The immortal words of Vijaya-Daasa speaking of Lord Hanuman rendered with an evergreen musical composition by Narasimha Nayakmaam:
2) Nartana Priye Tu Narayani
Nayakmaam sings a beautiful bhajan to the Mohini Incarnation of Lord Vishnu, a manifestation of beauty and art in its most perfect form. For many GSBs (s)he is a Kuladevi too! Jai Mahalasa Narayani!
With lots of Joy for the new year, I leave you all with the delight of hearing these great performances. The songs above are just a part of a larger concert. I look forth to sharing the same during the new year!
After migrating from the Saraswati River Banks and then from Goa, Karnataka has been a home and a center for many Saraswat families for the last few generations.
We have in this edition, two beautiful songs by two very talented singers from the Radio Idli family.
Balachandra Prabhu
Those who have heard this upcoming prodigy in the previous post, would be waiting to hear from him yet again. Balachandra returns after winning an award from the All India Radio, standing first in a National Competition. He is now an All India Radio artist!
We all cheered him and enthusiastically he returns with a very clear recording from a live concert at the Death Anniversary of Marahoom Abdul Karim Khan Sahab of the Kirana Gharana fame.
Balachandra presents to us a beautiful Kannada song composed by the great Purandaradasa.
We wish Balachandra Many more awards and bigger concert stages! ********************************************************************************
Archana Kamath.
Its not time for some light Kannada Music sung and recorded by Archana. Archana would be participating in a Music competition this weekend, sponsored by Loksatta of the Indian Express group.. Let us wish her all the very best!
Based in the musical town of Hubli and a dedicated student of the Kirana Gharana, Balachandra brings to us the rich flavours of Hindustani Classical music.
Born in Belthangady a place in south canara on 14th October 1985, Balachandra took his initial lessons of Hindustani classical vocal from his father. Further from Shri Jayateerth Mevundi for 3 years and at present he is under the able guidance of the renowned Kirana gharana vocalist, Pandit Shripati Padigar who is a senior disciple of great vocalist of India Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. Honorable artiste Dr. Gangubai Hangal and many other senior artistes appreciated his music and blessed him for his career. Recently he performed at Abdul Karim Khan Music Festival, where he received recognition and encouragement from the most discerning people.
His achievements include the Thamankar Award, 2006 and the Pratibha Puraskar scholarship from the Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy.
We have here a live recording of his recent concert. Two amazing Abhangs with the finest play with Swaras. Kindly excuse the quality of the recordign which has been done through a mobile phone, which however doesnt diminish the quality of Bala's voice in it!(please click the widget below to play)
With immense dedication, devotion and practice Balachandra aspires for a successful career in music. I would request each listener to help an upcoming artist like Balachandra, by refering him to organizations that hold concerts to encourage and preserve our rich art.
With his first post, let us all wish Balachandra all the very best for his future. I am sure all of us would await for more of his recordings!
I have been postponing the uploading of these links for a long time now. My apologies are due on this front. This year as usual the Kanara Saraswat Association organised its event and there was a tremendous response. This is the same stage where great artistes like Pt.Ravishankar have done their earlier performances and the association has a reputation of being patrons of indian music.
We are posting some of the best performances here on radio idli.
Sunil Kamath won the first prize for his rendition of jiya dhadak Dhadak in the light music category which is an open event without any restrictions on age groups.
Sunil Kamath has in fact been one of the regular contributors to our radio idli blog and his talent has been well appreciated.
Palkhi Utsavs, Oil Lamps and the bright Full Moon in the heavens, mark the special occassion of Kartik Poornima tonight. The voices of our community talent always brings smiles to each of us and the bloom of Poornima at the click of a widget :-)
Here's serving you the best for the festival with our best wishes attached.

Ms. Geeta Khanolkar - A professional, live in concert (Mumbai)
It is our privilege to have a voice of a professional on our blog, thanks to her close relative, Ms. Smita Nalkoor, who sent us her live recording. Srikala, Ms. Nalkoor's daughter if you recall made a very nice debut last week.
The audio quality is average due to live recording, but the song is divine!
She rocked mumbai in Voice of Mumbai competition, then she rocked the nation through "Khelo Gao Jeeto" Show. Even amidst her busiest schedules, she has been rocking Radio Idli all the time, giving immense delight to all our listeners here!
What drives her is the call from our hearts to hear more from her. She reciprocates by singing -- Yeh Dil Sun raha hai tere dil ki Pukaar.
Shwetha makes the Diwali memorable for us with a lovely Kannada song. She had made a wonderful entry last week. We hope to hear more and more from her! My little knowledge of kannada makes me grasp an expression of enthusiasm in this song, which is apt for the festive season when we hoist our spirits!

Shwetha marks her beginning with a beautifull call to Lord Krishna - Krishna Nee Begane Baaro....
Samiir Halady, (you wouldn't have missed him as the host of the latest Chutney Chat videos!!) brings to us a creative and energetic composition of Amit. He presents to us : A time for fun, a time for love!
******************************************************************************* Srikala Nalkoor - Om Shanti Om Mumbai
Deepika-pacchi ahemm padukone made GSBs proud by her cast in Om Shanti Om. The GSB involvement just got even better with Srikala presenting a song from the movie Om Shanti Om. Lets hope Shahrukh is replaced too by a GSB, so that our chendi chelli remains within the community :-P..
Jokes aside, here is a lovely debut performance by Srikala!

The Rang De Basanti Drama in our very own Konkani progresses to its 4th episode. We have been receiving requests to have the series shown as a single combined post. We have split it into episodes for convenience of upload and also of viewing in low bandwidth. We will however try and upload the entire drama as one.. Till then Here are the episodes
Personal apologies for delays in uploads from my side due to a "rang de basanti" that my internet service provider is doing with me for the wrong reasons. Hope my Gandhigiri will work with him soon :-)
First of all lemme begin by congratulating that our beloved Chief Editor Nagesh Pai and his wife Varsha Pai ( no longer - "soon to be Pai" ;-) ) on their marriage, on behalf of the whole of Radio Idli.
Where as I am expressing this in simple words, someone else wants to do it in better style. Archana dedicates a lovely romantic song to the newly married couple..
Reshma After the two oriental Nightingales, comes the turn of the Nightingale from the west. Reshma sings out a Basavanna's Vachana. Basavanna was a popular 12th century poet and a spiritual leader from Bijapur, Karnataka, also known to be the originator of Lingayatism.. His Vachanas were simple poems aimed at teaching the public with moral values. Is this Vachana, Basavanna requests his God "Kudalasangama Deva" to treat his own body as a temple, as he does not have the riches to construct a temple for worship like the wealthy do !
