Launching Southern Samba(r).. (south india special

The "Unconquered South" - perhaps the smallest cultural subcontinent on earth. 4 states hosting about 9 languages, home to the Carnatic classical music, dance forms like Kattakalli, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohinyattam, and the deadliest martial art on earth - the Kalarippayattu, breeds an ecstatic passion for lifetime.

Surely the South is only a subset of the vast cultural heritage of India. But yet, despite of the difference in its roots of origin, South Indian music is complete and as rich as any other music in the world.

With a Saraswat perspective, we have our brethren right from Karwar in Karnataka to Kochi and the rest of Kerala. Our culture blends very well with that of the regions and hence we have beauty in diversity!

Rightly so, Radio Idli recognizes this uniqueness of South India and reflects this in a special South Indian edition henceforth.

So presenting to you, the Southern Samba-r as a topping on your delicious Idli..

Neetha Shenoy

Lets begin with the blessings of God. So presenting first we have from God's own country Kerala, Neetha Shenoy from Kochi. Neetha happens to be the elder sister of Amitha who has won quite a bit of recognition from her contributions earlier this year

It was a great opportunity to photograph and hear the concert of great Indian Percussion exponents like Pt. Sadanand Naimpalli and Pt. Omkar Gulvady. It felt great to watch the concert with a proud son - Abhang Gulvady, seated along with us who later introduced us to his father and to the other great artists like Tabla Maestro Jayesh Rege. It was a great experience to hear and have a close conversation with the great artists.

We also had the pleasure of hearing the legend of Shri Jitendra Abhisheki brought alive in full brilliance by his son, Shri Shaunak Abhisheki which was a grand finale to the whole show.

Matru Devo Bhava, Pitru Devo Bhava - Parent's special

We owe a lot to our parents, our voice that we express here bears its origin to the knowledge and nurture that they have given us with all those sacrifices behind it. Its time we sit and hear their divine voice through our tribute to them - Radio Idli Parent's special.

This issue is not a one time special, but a beginning of a platform that involves all generations beginning our parents, our ownselves, and our children (if any :-) or if many).

Here begins a great bouquet of what our parents have to sing to us.
